The demand for standardisation and efficiency in the floriculture sector continues to grow. One of the issues we are currently working on with growers and buyers is the labelling process. As the number of labels grows and labour costs rise, it becomes increasingly important to find a scalable and affordable way of working.
Discussions with growers indicate that the time at which labels are delivered is sometimes too late in the process. The label (digital) is sometimes delivered only after the order has been processed and ready for delivery, causing unnecessary delays in processing and scheduling. Currently, many different formats can be added at the request of the (end) customer. This makes it difficult for growers to organise and automate. This often results in customisation, which is both costly and error-prone. In addition, buyers are finding that the formats they want to tender for are not always available in Floriday.
The desire seems clear: more consistency in formats and clear agreements on delivery times. This helps not only growers but also buyers to improve logistics.
Looking for solutions together
Together with Plantform member growers, we are now investigating what is needed to improve the label process.In doing so, we are looking at:
- Current working methods and bottlenecks
- How exporters receive label orders and then forward them to Floriday
- Possible solution directions that work for both parties
In conversation with growers and buyers
Over the coming period, we will be working with growers and buyers to develop these insights further. We will do this in part through one-on-one meetings and sessions where we share experiences, wishes and ideas.
In the autumn we will organise a joint meeting with growers and buyers. Objective: to take concrete steps towards a more efficient, standardised and scalable labelling process.
