Protect yourself against telephone cyber fraud during your daily work

Telephone cyber fraud is becoming increasingly common, including in the floriculture industry. Criminals pose as IT employees and try to pressure you into acting quickly: approving a login request, sharing a code, or clicking on a link.

Recently, this method was also used in the attack on Odido, where access was gained to internal systems and customer data. Precisely because you work digitally every day as a grower or buyer, such as with Floriday, such an attack can have major consequences. Just quickly “confirming” something while buying or processing order requests seems innocent, but can be an entry point for fraud.

Recognise the signs as you work

Pay extra close attention in situations like these:

  • For example, you receive a call while you are busy with daily tasks such as buying or order processing
  • Someone asks you directly to approve a login or Multi-Factor Authentication request
  • Pressure is applied: “this has to happen now”
  • You will receive a link or attachment during the conversation

Have doubts? Always hang up and call back using a known number.

This is how you reduce the risk

  • Never share passwords or Multi-Factor Authentication codes
  • Never approve unexpected login requests
  • Do not click on links received during a phone call
  • Take your time. A real IT employee will never rush you
